Sagastrand Beach Resort, Olango Island, Cebu, Philippines

Total of $1200 USD stolen in cash, phones, sunglasses

Sagastrand had security guards on duty which sat in between the only two houses on the resort. I was given a key and locked the front door before going to the fiesta that we were invited to. I did not expect to have to check every single window in the house to see if they were locked or not when checking in to the resort. Every window was closed, but none of the windows were locked. I don't understand why the windows would be purposely closed, but not locked?... Plus there were security guards the whole time supposedly monitoring the premises.

That night we did attempt to contact the manager (the one living across the street) and we determined that they were probably sleeping since it was 1am. I was able to talk to her the next morning. At the fiesta, some locals offered food and drinks and I said I did not have my wallet on me and they assured me that paying the following day wasn't an issue. They tried to hustle me out of more cash and were unable to follow the math to calculate three items, but that's another story and seems to be the norm there.  An employee at Sagastrand was able to help charge extra to my credit card to give cash to return to the manager to later give to her cousin so that specific debt was settled in the end.

Owners of the resort were unwilling to compensate for what happened, which is perfectly reasonable since they themselves were not personally responsible.  Had I not have had to leave the country hours after this event occurred, I’d have pursued further action. I have no choice but to leave an honest review of a negative experience I had at Sagastrand, only to have the owner of the resort accuse my friends of the ones responsible for the theft of our own items.  This resort is on a beautiful island, but I could not recommend staying here due to the lack of safety.  If two security guards are sitting 25 feet away from the front door in a resort that is completely fenced off, thefts should not be happening.
